FIRST NATIONAL PARK
Braga
The Peneda- Gerês National Park is presented as the first protected area to be created in Portugal, being the only one with the status of National Park.
It forms a continuous landscape together with Baixa Limia-Serra do Xurés Natural Park in Lobios, Spain.
The two parks form the Gerês-Xurés Trans-border Park. It occupies an area of 69,693 hectares.
It was considered the new European destination worldwide and the fourth most valuable at European level in terms of quality and price, according to the Trivago’s list of 100 best destinations for 2014.
